Take a Tour of St. David's Church

This tour focuses on the physical plant of the newly renovated St. David's Episcopal Church. If you wish to see the people of St. David's in action, please visit our other photo pages.
St. David's congregation was formed in the early 1950's. The church was built in 1963. In 1999 St. David's became a parish. This "little church in the woods" has recently (2008) been renovated and expanded.
It all started with a leaky roof that needed replacing. However, once we began to investigate the rotting structure of the church, we discovered that a major reconstruction was needed. After a lengthy "visioning", reconstruction and construction process, this was the product. As you can see from a comparison with the photo above of the old church, it was a major (and expensive) undertaking.
The main entryway was reoriented and redesigned. The congreation enters from below the sanctuary.
The congregation enters through the double doors into this space. Straight ahead (towards you) is the "undercroft" or multipurpose room for church and community meetings. To the right is a set of stairs that will take one up into the sanctuary. To the left (unshown) is a lift (elevator) for the handicapped or elderly who might need assistance to get upstairs.
Large timbers milled from recycled lumber was used to construct the stairway through a well- lighted stairwell.
